EAN is commonly referred to as "NITROX" in the industry. Using it does not make you a "tech diver" breathing exotic mixes of inert gases. Since the 1990's it has simply been recognized as a safe alternative gas mixture for use in recreational diving. Unwanted nitrogen is removed from the mix and is replaced by oxygen up to specified amounts. As safe as NITROX has proven to be, there are numerous physiology, fill, equipment and theory considerations that students must master before becoming NITROX divers. Do the ideas of deeper, longer, gas mixtures and the like, intrigue you? Talk to us about the prerequisite training to begin significantly more advanced PADI technical courses where concepts such as helium based tri-mix diving gases are taught.
